Power Line Communication - PLC is a lower-cost option than GSM and Wireless communication mainly because PLCs use the existing power line infrastructure whereas wireless methods require repeaters and other infrastructure.

Using PLCs, a single concentrator can support up to several hundred meters, providing a bridge to utility communications methods and reducing data  infrastructure costs
